Local medical technology now available for the first time

Kitchener, Ontario, March 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Intellijoint Surgical is extremely proud to announce the first sale of its flagship product, Intellijoint HIP to a public hospital in Canada. Intellijoint Surgical was founded in 2010 and is based in Kitchener, Ontario, where it develops and markets surgical planning and navigation solutions for total hip and knee replacement surgeries.

Humber River Hospital performs over 600 total hip replacement surgeries each year and will begin using Intellijoint HIP immediately. Intellijoint HIP will be available to all orthopedic surgeons performing total hip replacement surgery in Humber, enabling the public medical healthcare landscape in Canada for the first time with this type of technology.

“Intellijoint HIP will reduce the need for additional fluoroscopy and diagnostic imaging arms in a system already behind schedule due to Directive 2, which halted all non-essential surgeries due to COVID-19. This will allow for efficiencies at Humber River as we resume scheduling hip surgeries. said Jhanvi Solanki, program director for surgical services at Humber River Hospital.

Dr. Sebastian Rodriguez-Elizalde, Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon at Humber River Hospital, notes, “The Intellijoint System allows for precise cup placement and leg length corrections to the degree and millimeter. This open platform technology is simple to use, takes minutes to set up, and allows surgeons to stop using intraoperative X-rays.

Bringing Canadian medical technologies to Canadians is a major achievement for the public health sector given the supply challenges. This success is due to the Humber River Hospital Foundation and its generous donors. Intellijoint HIP has been approved by Health Canada since 2015 and has already been used in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan with tremendous success.

More and more surgeons are embracing technology in their operating rooms for the benefit of their patients. Intellijoint HIP (IJH) is a new navigational device that integrates with surgeons’ existing workflows and implant choices with affordable pay-as-you-go or capital purchase models. IJH provides real-time intraoperative measurements for precise implant alignment, as well as leg length and offset restoration for total hip replacement surgery. IJH adds no surgery time and has proven results with over 20,000 procedures performed worldwide.

Humber River Hospital patients undergoing total hip replacement surgery can now access this innovative modern technology that enables improved efficiency and outcomes.

“We are thrilled with this first sale to a public hospital in Canada,” says Armen Bakirtzian, Co-Founder and CEO of Intellijoint Surgical, “This 7-year journey is a testament to our team’s perseverance and dedication to delivering the benefits of our technology to Canadians. We are grateful to Humber River Hospital and the Humber River Hospital Foundation for their commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
