Minister of Education and stakeholders discuss management of medical education – myRepublica



KATHMANDU, April 27: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has started discussions with stakeholders in its attempt to make the country’s medical science education more systematic and qualitative.

Education, Science and Technology Minister Devendra Poudel on Tuesday met with members of the Board of Medical Education Commission, Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital (TUTH), University of Kathmandu, Purbanchal University, Sanskrit University of Nepal and others, and discussed the systematic and quality promotion of medical science education in the country.

Minister Poudel convened the meeting at a time when concerns are being raised that up to 98 billion rupees are sent abroad from Nepal every year through Nepalese students pursuing medical studies in foreign countries. They also discussed improving medical education in Nepal.

On this occasion, Minister Poudel declared: “The attraction of students to pursue medical studies is increasing in the country. Nepalese students who study medicine abroad practice after returning to Nepal. Let’s plan for them to be able to study and take exams in Nepal itself.

He was of the view that the money currently flowing out of the country for medical education would stay in the country if Nepalese students currently going abroad for medical education could get education in the country. For this, we must improve the quality of medical education, he added.

Minister Poudel also expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of qualified human resources on the ground when their files were in sufficient number. “Let’s focus on quality education by increasing the criteria to compete for opportunities. In doing so, the qualified human resource must not remain unemployed,” according to Minister Poudel.

“We have declined in the name of education regulation. Students, except the limited ones, are barred from studying in the country due to some complexities of laws and laws,” the minister observed.
