While healthcare providers are already teaching their staff how to handle connected medical devices, introducing IoMT into medical education, in conjunction with other technologies, can help train better doctors.

The IoMT is an amalgamation of medical devices and applications that can connect to healthcare information technology systems using networking technologies. In other words, IoMT refers to the collection of medical devices and applications that connect to healthcare IT systems through online computer networks. IoMT devices are connected to cloud platforms where captured data can be stored and analyzed.

Also known as IoT for healthcare, IoMT has been a game-changer in healthcare, reducing costs and helping to improve patient care and comfort. Some examples of IoMT devices include MRI machines, patient monitors, smart beds, and IV pumps.

How IoMT and Other Technologies Can Help Modernize Medical Education

The healthcare IoT is evolving every day, and the technology has the potential to transform the patient experience and reduce healthcare costs. Keeping this in mind, medical schools or institutions are introducing IoMT into their curriculum, along with other new era technologies, to help aspiring physicians prepare for the future challenges of modern healthcare.

So far, case-based learning (CBL) has become an effective pedagogy for student-centered learning in medical education, but IoT concepts have gained considerable attention in recent years. Using new technologies with CBL can improve learning ability by providing real life-changing medical cases.
