The United Arab Emirates University is inviting applications for a full professor position in the Department of Medical Education. The candidate’s academic achievements must meet the requirements of a full professor and have a minimum of 10 years experience in medical education. Candidate must demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, demonstrate commitment to educational excellence and innovation. The candidate should have experience and understanding of contemporary medical education issues. Background: The United Arab Emirates University College of Medicine and Health Sciences is implementing a six-year undergraduate medical program. The program is divided into 3 two-year blocks comprising pre-medical, pre-clinical and clinical programs. The job duties described below are not exhaustive and the incumbent will be expected to be flexible and support the creation of a strong medical education department.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Assistant Dean for Medical Education and Academic Affairs and department chairs
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Dean, Associate Dean, Program Directors and the University on matters relating to existing and proposed new medical education and training activities
  • Responsible for special projects delegated by the Dean/Assistant Deans regarding undergraduate and postgraduate education and training
  • Provide support and advice to the Dean/Associate Dean on matters relating to accreditation of undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs
  • Liaise with program directors, course coordinators and faculty to develop an effective medical education program that meets the needs of an evolving healthcare system.
  • Oversee the delivery of the medical education program in collaboration with program directors ensuring the availability of optimal learning resources (library, teaching labs, clinical skills training and simulation, media resources, electronic teaching resources, IT support )
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of the integration of clinical skills and simulation-based curriculum activities with placement-based learning experiences
  • Help support teaching and assessment through faculty development programs and faculty mentoring.
  • Develop/update policies and procedures for effective curriculum management
  • Oversees curriculum reform and develops plans for regular curriculum reform and assessment improvement
  • Develop and apply appropriate quality assurance measures in education and faculty development
  • Develop an annual report on medical training activities

Minimum qualification

  • Must have a master’s or doctoral degree in medical education
  • Has an MD or MBBS

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience

  • Have at least 10 years of experience working for an academic institution with a medical education department.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a medical administrator at an accredited medical school
  • Has a publication record to ensure that he can be appointed to the rank of professor.
  • The successful candidate will be an innovator and willing to work with a team.
