Construction is progressing on the new building complex for Erbe Electromedizin in Rangendingen, 70 km south of stuttgart. ZUBLIN Timber has started the extensive timber works, completion is expected as soon as mid-August 2022.

Wolfer & Goebel, a subsidiary of ZUBLIN, is part of the consortium (share: 73%) and assumes overall responsibility for the execution of the turnkey project. When commissioned in 2023, the three-part building complex on the business premises in Erbe will house administration, development, production, logistics and a staff restaurant.

Wood construction work in detail

ZUBLIN Timber plans, manufactures and installs the load-bearing roof structures with approx. 1,100 m3 of glulam as well as the timber frame exterior walls with a total area of approx. 9,500 m2 and approx. 5,500 m2 of wooden facade. In total, the use of wood will make it possible to store approximately 2,000 t of CO2.

“We are processing and assembling an unusually large amount of wood for the industrial complex within an unusually ambitious timeframe. By using LEAN management methods, however, we were able to optimize the processes. And thanks to the precise prefabrication of the elements in our factory in Aichach, installation on site is possible in a very short time,” says Sven Jorgestechnical project manager at ZUBLIN Timber.

The 25,000 m2 factory will meet high sustainability standards – not only during the construction phase, but also during operation. It will be one of the first industrial buildings in Germany to meet the high demands of the KfW Efficiency House Standard 40 EE.

Elements of new construction in wood and wood-based materials:

Exterior building envelopes with timber frame construction walls and timber louvered rainscreen.

Glued laminated timber load-bearing roof system.

Exterior walls made up of prefabricated wooden frame elements to which are added large wooden facade elements.

Stairs and walkways in the atrium with completely prefabricated elements in glulam and glued laminated timber.
